About CarrieI grew up in a world rich in imagination and play. We were mostly outdoors, climbing apple trees, playing games in the street, ice skating, busily exploring, discovering, and day dreaming (and doing my chores, of course!). At about six I asked my Mom if she could teach me how to garden and she let me tend a big patch of zinnias and four o'clocks from seeds to bloom! I am a gardener to this day and so much of my work is informed by that love of tending, pruning and blooming. I also love junk stores, I get enamored by a certain curve of vase, or shape of a window or door. I collect simple objects that end up in my paintings, an old teapot, a funky plate or bowl. I have sketchbooks full of vase shapes, flowers, leaves, bugs and butterflies, birds, vistas, sunsets, cloud formations, and more. This sense of wonder fuels my creativity and brings joy to the everyday. My work depicts the familiar with an enhanced realism assembled with color, dots, and texture.
